Job overview

As a result of a recent skills mix review within the Payroll team, an exciting opportunity has arisen to offer a Band 3 position within the team, to support with the delivery of the Payroll service to the Trust and Sulis Hospital.

The post holder will be responsible for the production of prompt and accurate payslips for monthly and weekly staff including the reviewing of time and attendance data, starters, leavers, completion of statutory and internal forms, calculations of SSP and SMP etc.  You will also be accountable for providing advice to People Tea, line managers and employees alike.

Please note that this role is office based within the Payroll department on site.  We do not offer remote working currently for this role.

Main duties of the job

To ensure the prompt and accurate processing and payment of monthly paid staff which entails

Maintain ESR (the NHS computerised Payroll system) through the prompt & accurate interpretation and transfer of information from source documentation for the payment of monthly and weekly Payrolls

Update ESR with new starter, leaver, permanent & temporary changes

Investigate any data anomalies, inconsistencies and errors putting corrective action in place

Investigate and resolve all Payroll queries from employees, People Team and Managers  which may involve interpreting of local and national policies

Provide advice and information in respect of Payroll queries including payroll related terms and conditions within Agenda for Change and Medical and Dental, plus statutory Tax, NI, SSP/SMP/SAP/ShPP 

Check data provided by the Trust Time and Attendance system ( Allocate )

Prepare manual payslip calculations & prorated payments for backdated payments

Respond to payroll correspondence from external bodies: HMRC, CSA, Courts, Banks and Solicitors etc.

Maintain an up to date knowledge of payroll & statutory legislation and procedures

Calculation and recording of all absences (SMP/SSP etc.) on ESR and advise Managers and People Team accordingly of any employees approaching half or nil pay

Must have a full understanding of and complies with confidentiality and data protection legislation
