Specialist Physiotherapist - Pelvic Health

Are you enthusiastic about pelvic health physiotherapy? Do you want to work in a modern therapy department, which strives to improve and work dynamically? If so, we are looking to recruit a Specialist Pelvic Health Physiotherapist to join the outpatient team in the RUH Adult Therapies Department. 

The applicant will need to provide excellent, evidence based patient care to a wide and varied pelvic health caseload. They will also need to demonstrate excellent communications skills and be flexible to be able to meet the complex demands of the service. 

The successful candidate will be involved in the supervision and teaching of Band 5 Physiotherapy staff, Therapy Assistants and Physiotherapy students. 

The department has a positive approach to continuing professional development. Training will be provided by the existing team with many opportunities for learning and development

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

  • To provide a high quality Physiotherapy service in the Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Outpatients Department. 
  • To perform advanced Physiotherapeutic assessment, diagnosis and treatment of pelvic health patients who may have diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions.
  • To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner, hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type.

Requirements due to Working Environment

  • To be able to cope with frequent exposure to highly unpleasant working conditions on a regular (daily) basis, e.g., bodily fluids including sputum, vomit, faeces, urine and occasional exposure to verbal and physical aggression
  • To comply with Trust Policies. The Trust requires regular mandatory training. It is the responsibility of all staff to book in and attend these courses

Qualifications and Training

  • Diploma/degree in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC Registered
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Evidence of recent postgraduate training in relevant fields pelvic health physiotherapy

  • Involvement in CSP Special Clinical Interest Groups
  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience of working as part of a physiotherapy team and multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge and experience of a wide range of Women’s Health conditions
  • Experience of research/training in speciality
  • Experience of student and physiotherapy assistant supervision
  • High standard of knowledge of evidence based practice

  • Previous experience as a specialist (or equivalent) in a hospital environment
  • Knowledge of validated assessment tools and outcome measures
  • Involvement in audit, research and understanding quality issues.

  • Ability to negotiate with patients, carers and members of the multidisciplinary team about individual case management, prioritisation and clinical risk.
  • To be competent in performing assessments and treatments with patients with a variety of MSK conditions.
  • Good critical thinking skills including analytical and reflection skills.
  • Caseload/workload management skills, including the ability to prioritise, plan and organise.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to manage own time independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including observation, listening and empathy skills.

  • To carry out assessments and treatments of patients for several periods with moderate to intense physical effort whilst carrying out concurrent activities
  • To have experience of working in a stressful environment and with emotional or aggressive patients and carers
  • To have experience of maintaining high levels of concentration when under pressure from competing sources
  • To deal sensitively with patients who have high levels of anxiety and aggression caused by pain, dementia or limited mobility
  • To be able to deal with distressing and difficult circumstances, at times giving unwelcome news regarding limited expectations from rehabilitation
