Ward Clerk

Job overview
Ward Clerk – Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) & Direct Assessment Area (DAA)
Our busy 25‑bedded Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, admitting patients from the Emergency Department, GP practices, and into our 13‑bedded Direct Assessment Area (DAA). Patients typically remain with us for up to 72 hours before either transferring to the most appropriate ward for ongoing care or being safely discharged home.
MAU/DAA plays a vital role in the patient journey, providing timely assessment, investigation, and initial treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. We work closely with our colleagues in A&E and Ambulatory Care to improve patient flow, reduce waiting times, and deliver high‑quality, responsive care. The service—particularly the DAA—has benefited from significant Trust investment as part of a wider programme to enhance Emergency Care.
