Job overview

We are delighted to invite an application for two Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy training posts to be based in two of the Bristol CAMHS teams.

NHS England has confirmed funding for a two Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Traineeships  in Bristol . The funding can  extend  to six years to include both a pre-clinical training course (recognised by the Association of Child Psychotherapists, ACP) and subsequent 4 years of clinical training at an ACP accredited training school. Applications are invited from candidates who as a minimum, have been accepted onto a pre-clinical training beginning September 2024. They will already be working with children and young people in a professional capacity and will have an interest in and some understanding of psychoanalytical thinking. The funding covers course fees for the pre-clinical training and fees for personal psychoanalysis in the second year of the pre-clinical training. This will need to be with an ACP approved Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist.  NB The funding will begin at the point the trainee  is at in their training when offered the position and cannot be backdated.

Main duties of the job

Following successful  completion of the pre-clinical two year course and on being accepted by one of the registered training schools,  the candidate will take up a post in one of the four locality CAMHS  teams for 4 years clinical placement.

They will  be involved in the core work of the locality CAMHS team alongside undertaking their psychotherapy  training cases

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

During clinical placement the trainee  will undertake  psychoanalytically orientated  clinical work with children, young people and families 0 to 25yrs 

They will be able to offer consultation to other agencies working with children and families 

They will take part in the generic work core work  alongside the locality CAMHS team 

They will offer to work  with  parents and members  professional networks around a child.

They will be able to offer some teaching and  supervision.

Essential criteria
  • Honours Degree
  • Place on Observation Course or equivalent or already completed
Desirable criteria
  • previous relevant professional qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of work with children/familes across 2 of 3 pre-latency/latency/adolescent
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of multi-agency working

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Some understanding of what a psychoanlytic approach involves
Desirable criteria
  • knowledge of CAMHS
  • knowledge of safeguarding principles
