Are you a motivated and compassionate Physiotherapist looking to make a real difference in the support of adults with mental health, learning disability and or autism? We are excited to offer an opportunity to join our dedicated multidisciplinary team on the Kingfisher Unit, a dynamic and supportive environment delivering high-quality physiotherapy care to service users with complex needs. The role will include multi-disciplinary working at the new inpatient and community outreach service.

The Kingfisher is a specialist Service for Service Users experiencing an acute Mental illness and Learning Disability and/or Autism. The Service forms a part of the Regional Offer specialist Learning Disability and Autism inpatient provision with a new enhanced model of care.


You will be well supported by the Head of Profession for Physiotherapy and Exercise, who provides regular professional supervision, mentorship, and development opportunities.

We place a strong emphasis on peer support and CPD, with regular meetings, reflective practice sessions, and opportunities to engage in service development and innovation.

About you:
We are looking for a HCPC-registered Physiotherapist with excellent communication skills, a passion for delivering person-centred care, and an interest in working in a mental health or complex care setting. Main duties of the job

To provide highly specialist physiotherapy assessments and interventions to service users with complex physical, psychological, mental health, autism or learning disability needs, working as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in various settings as part of an integrated service.

To lead on an area of speciality within Mental Health, Learning Disability and Autism.

To provide specialist liaison and advice to partner organisations.

To be an advisor on the strategic developments within the Physiotherapy and Exercise Service and to be involved in the future planning of the services in a designated area/team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To offer highly specialised physiotherapy assessments and interventions via an evidence-based, needs-led service as part of the Care Plan/recovery approach in a variety of settings.

To provide relevant information to support local and Trust strategies.

To be involved in the education of undergraduates and other personnel.

To deputise for the Head of Profession for physiotherapy as required and attend and contribute to Trust-wide physiotherapy meetings.

To be a lead for an area of clinical speciality within mental health and lead on service development in a specific area.

To promote and lead on audit and research within the speciality.

To provide professional leadership including recruitment, supervision and development within a designated area/team in a multi-disciplinary context.

Person specification

Essential and Desireable

Essential criteria
  • Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy
  • Significant demonstrable post registration experience functioning as a Band 6 practitioner
  • Knowledge of specific requirements to meet the needs of those with mental health conditions, Learning Disabilities and Autism
  • Be able to demonstrate the application of physiotherapeutic interventions in a variety of settings
  • An understanding of multi professional team working and an ability to promote the role of the Physiotherapist within that
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working in a mental health or learning disabilities/autism setting
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to teach and advise others
  • Highly developed communication skills – (both in writing and verbally)
