Main duties of the job

This is a fixed term contract for 12 months commencing on 5th August 2026 until 3rd August 2027 (subject to employment clearances). 

What you’ll do

  • Lead and deliver high‑quality teaching for undergraduates and postgraduates
  • Support the DME with Trust‑wide educational strategy and key projects
  • Develop and quality‑assure teaching programmes (seminars, tutorials, simulation, workshops, CBL, digital materials)
  • Contribute to faculty development and strengthen educational activity across the Trust
  • Optional protected clinical session to maintain and develop clinical skills
  • No on‑call commitment

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Basic Medical Qualification (MBBS or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
  • TLHP certificate or equivalent

Eligibility

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Completion of Psychiatry Core Training in the UK prior to 5th August 2026
  • To be a current ST4-6 in Psychiatry eligible for an OOPE (Out Of Programme Experience) year or to have completed core AND to be eligible to apply for higher training commencing in August 2026

Knowledge & skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellence in psychiatric clinical skills with knowledge and use of evidence based practice
  • Excellent communication skills with students, clinicians and senior colleagues and able to establish good working relationships with all members of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrate good organisational skills and time management and have a high level ability to organise own learning. Prepared to be flexible in working patterns.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Royal College of Psychiatry, Foundation School and University of Bristol curricula
  • To have undertaken a significant leadership role

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Experience and excellence in teaching undergraduates and postgraduates and at the multi professional level
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of a variety of teaching methodologies

Research and Audit

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of clinical audit and quality improvement and have an active interest in educational research
Desirable criteria
  • To have completed an audit project/ QIP in medical education

Travel

Essential criteria
  • Ability to fulfil all duties of the post including being able to travel independently to all academic sites relevant to the post
