Job overview

We are looking to recruit a Band 6 Specialist Practitioner to join our team. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual, who is looking for a new challenge, working in an ever evolving service. 

The S.Glos  intensive team is a great place to work allowing you to develop excellent clinical skills, but also leadership skills which you may not get from other roles due to the fast paced and high acuity nature of the service. The team has nurtured many clinicians with personalised training options. Many of these clinicians have gone on to achieve promotions in the locality which has opened up roles within the team. The Band 6 clinician will work shifts, and this includes evenings and weekends. and a minimal rota of night shifts. You have the options to request some shifts and we also support flexible working.  

Main duties of the job

In a wide range of situations and locations to undertake the full range of activities required to deliver comprehensive mental health assessment, in an emergency for service users, who may be distressed and in crisis.

There will be a comprehensive induction to the role and a supported period of supernumerary to aid with transition.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Band 6 will have a role leading the team.

Within this role they may:

  • Triage referrals to the service and make recommendations.
  • Complete holistic psychosocial assessments within the community.
  • Complete gatekeeping assessments to facilitate admission when home treatment is not felt to be a viable / safe option.
  • Attend Mental Health Act assessments on Mason place of safety and formulate home treatment plans if home treatment is indicated.
  • Implement Risk Management and Care Plans for the effective home treatment of Service Users utilising least restrictive practice at every opportunity.
  • Support with medication management and concordance within community.
  • Provide telephone support to service users who ring in during times of crisis.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Practitioner - Nurse/OT/Social worker with up to date registration. Diploma level/Degree in relevant health/social care profession, eg RMN, OT, Social Worker

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates substantial post-registration experience gained working in a range of frontline adult mental health services, undertaking assessment and delivering interventions
  • Demonstrates a developed understanding of the recovery principles, and the role of secondary mental health services in the delivery of care
  • Awareness of the importance of working and engaging with carers
  • Demonstrates substantial experience of, and relevant professional practice qualification in mentoring/assessing students and learners
  • Experience of supervising junior members of staff
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant post-registration qualifications, such as Thorn, Non Medical Prescribing, CBT, AMHP, Brief Interventions etc
  • Experience gained in a wide variety of settings
  • Experience leading shifts
