About you
To succeed in this role at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust you will have:
• Experience of NHS Finances. Knowledge of Financial Systems and packages is essential.
• Working Experience in an NHS environment and processes on IFRS16.
• Experience of working with operational teams around capital planning.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrable experience in working with operational teams and other corporate functions to deliver a mature rounded service
Main duties of the job
The role
We are looking to recruit a Capital Support Accountant reporting directly to the Capital Accountant. This role will also work closely with the Capital Budget managers.
The role will support the production of accurate financial information, to analyse and present complex information for both finance and non-finance staff, to manage the integrity of the Trust’s fixed asset register and elements of the statement of financial position.
Good accounting technical skills are required with knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (Including IFRS 16) together with experience of relationship building with natural problem-solving abilities. The role requires strong analytical /excel skills, real attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deliverables to agreed timelines.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- 5 ‘O’ Levels/GCSE’s including Mathematics and English.
- Advanced Diploma in Accounting – Level 3 (AAT), or currently studying this level.
- Evidence of continued professional development to degree level or equivalent level of knowledge and experience.
Desirable criteria
- Professional Diploma in Accounting – Level 4 (AAT full member)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of financial accounting experience in a large / complex organisation.
- Experience of technical accounting, capital accounting and/or financial management experience in the NHS or other large complex organisation
- Experience of analysing and investigating complex variances
- Working as part of a team.
Desirable criteria
- NHS year end accounting Experience
- Broad finance, technical accounting, capital accounting, office experience
