Job overview

The imaging department at Weston General Hospital is looking to recruit a  Band 6 MRI Specialist Radiographer on a Bank Contract. This is a fixed term Maternity Cover post for 1 year.

Applications are invited from Radiographers who have a minimum of 2 years MRI experience.  Previous NHS experience essential.

Role development is encouraged and the department is committed to supporting CPD. Applicants will be expected to be involved in training student radiographers.

We require staff with excellent communication skills, a flexible approach and attitude; commitment and passion to deliver and improve the service. Weston General Hospital Radiology Department is accredited by QSI, and all members of the Radiology Department are expected and encouraged to play an active role within this.

Main duties of the job

  • To produce high quality images.
  • To have a broad knowledge of MRI scanning and safety protocols.
  • To have expert knowledge with CRIS and PACS.
  • Good communication skills – verbally to patients and carers, other health service staff both within the organisation and outside and written skills for communicating to other health service personnel.
  • Must be able to liaise effectively with staff of all levels, to convey information about patients, diagnoses, equipment malfunction, technical aspects of scans etc
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with patients and carers, in order to obtain correct images.
  • Able to communicate effectively and sensitively with highly stressed and emotional patients-especially newly diagnosed cancer patients in CT.
  • Good team working skills

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • 2 Years MRI scanning experience
  • Knowledge of MRI Safety procedures
  • Evidence of on-going professional development and CPD
  • Experience of working in an NHS environment
Desirable criteria
  • Certificate in Cannulation/Intravenous injections
  • Knowledge of the Radiology Information System, and ability to use it to access and alter patient and examination data

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Computer skills for patient data and image manipulation for digital modalities
  • Manual handling and basic resuscitation
  • Contrast use and emergency procedures
  • Ability to prioritise workflow through imaging rooms according to clinical needs of patients and to prioritise the needs of different hospital areas
  • Ability to prioritise different categories of patients
  • Ability to prioritise work of assistants and students
  • PC skills, image appreciation (visual recognition of contrast, sharpness, resolution), ability to estimate distances accurately
Desirable criteria
  • Cross sectional protocols

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • BSc Radiography or DCR or other recognised equivalent radiography qualification
  • Registration with HCPC
Desirable criteria
  • Work towards or hold Post Graduate MRl qualification

  • High level communication skills, often in stressful circumstances
  • Ability to communicate diagnostic information seen on images to colleagues
  • Communication changes in technique and protocols to staff members
