Job overview

As an Advanced Apprentice Therapy Assistant you will work alongside physiotherapists and occupational therapists to provide high quality therapy for service users. You will work towards completion of the Advanced Senior Health Care Support Worker Apprenticeship over 20 months.

Main duties of the job

To assist in therapy assessment and undertake high quality therapy treatment programmes for children aged 0-19 years with musculoskeletal, physical and learning needs under instruction of physiotherapists and occupational therapists.


The role includes working on the children’s ward, in outpatients and community settings. You will be responsible for managing a diary of patients in a timely and productive way. Working across a number of environments within one day means that you will need to be flexible and good at time keeping. Accurate written records and data regarding your interventions with patients is essential.


The role involves a significant amount of communication with a wide variety of people from patients and families to a range of health professionals, including doctors, and education colleagues. It is essential to represent clinical therapy in a professional manner at all times and to communicate correct information appropriately.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To assist in the assessment of patients within the speciality, being responsible for working independently with patients with non-complex needs when determined by a qualified therapist
  • To use acquired skills to plan and deliver therapy treatment programmes with guidance from a therapist and using evidence based practice
  • Work collaboratively in the multidisciplinary team to plan and/or provide treatment and care of individual patients.
  • Contribute to the achievement of standards/ compliance of targets within their speciality as directed by a qualified therapist.
  • Provide advice and support to patients and carers throughout the patient pathway. Liaising with the multidisciplinary teams to provide a high standard of care
  • Will participate in service reviews
  • Provide appropriate information and education to patients and their relatives / carers.
