Safeguarding Specialist Nurse - Adults

Job overview

To work as a member of the Integrated Safeguarding Team within the Trust, The focus on the work will be to provide Specialist advisory, supportive and educative services to staff across the Trust with a focus upon Safeguarding Adults.

The post holder will contribute to the Safeguarding Adult’s work within the health and social care community in order to facilitate multi-professional interagency working and training in respect of Safeguarding Adults and the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

The post holder will work with the Professional Lead for Safeguarding Adults to ensure that there are robust internal policies and guidance and will act as a focal point for the dissemination of information in relation to policy, procedures and training.  They will assist the Professional Lead for Safeguarding Adults to develop professional standards and promote best practice and will provide accessible, accurate and relevant information and support to staff within the Trust regarding safeguarding adults activities.

They will act as a point of contact in order to provide advice and specialist knowledge to organisations and practitioners across the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Communities relating to Safeguarding Adults activities.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide specialist advice and support on Safeguarding Adults matters for all staff across the Trust.
  • To develop, maintain and evaluate a training programme relating to Safeguarding Adults and MCA.
  • To co-work on complex situations with staff to develop competence and confidence in the management of Safeguarding Adult cases.
  • To access legal advice when appropriate.
  • undertake regular audit of Safeguarding Adults practice.
  • To quality assure all Safeguarding Adults Referrals and Deprivation of Liberty activity within the Trust and maintain current databases
  • Participate in committees, forums and meetings as identified by  the Professional lead for Adult Safeguarding

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • First level Registered Nurse or Midwife – current registration.
  • Degree or equivalent study related to specialist role
  • Up to date knowledge of professional issues
  • IT literate
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching qualification
  • Supervision Qualification
  • Demonstrate professional development post-registration

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant post registration experience at Band 5 or above
  • Experience of multi-professional and multi-agency working
  • Knowledge of local and national policy
  • Highly specialist knowledge of Safeguarding underpinned by theory and experience
  • Experience of teaching
Desirable criteria
  • Research and development activity
  • Audit
