Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Department of Histopathology at the SYB Pathology Doncaster Royal Infirmary site. We are looking to recruit an Advanced Biomedical Scientist for our Immunohistochemistry section.
You should have significant practical experience in immunohistochemical techniques and hold a specific interest in this area. You will be responsible for the day to day running of this section, together with special stains and molecular techniques in conjunction with Laboratory Management.
The post will be based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. The laboratory is operational 8am - 5pm Monday to Friday; no weekend working is currently required.
Applications are invited from well-motivated individuals holding registration with the HCPC, the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology and a MSc or equivalent level 7 qualification.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will undertake the role of supervisor for the immunohistochemistry section, and in conjunction with Laboratory Management, be responsible for the day-to-day management of IHC workflow from sample receipt to issue to pathologists. In addition, this role will include the supervision of special stain techniques and molecular techniques.
Duties include;
- Working to the defined quality standards for all aspects of the service including active involvement in internal and external quality control and maintenance of the relevant documentation to satisfy accreditation standards for the relevant section.
- Training staff of all grades relevant to rotation into the section.
- Accountability and clear oversight of section performance.
- Close liaison with Consultant clinical colleagues to ensure appropriate and timely testing as well as discussion about and implementation of new tests.

Experience

- Extensive experience in a UKAS accredited Histopathology Lab
- Recent and relevant IHC knowledge / experience
- Recent and relevant knowledge / experience of core Histopathology lab techniques

- Experience in application and monitoring of UKAS standards
