Peri-operative Assistant

Band 2

Job overview

The Peri-Operative Assistant will be responsible for carrying out patient movement and general duties, including cleaning and other duties to support both the theatre and recovery team.
They will provide assistant to trained staff by the effective, prompt and competent undertaking of delegated duties which includes distribution of sterile instrumentation

Main duties of the job

Cleaning and preparation of theatre trolleys (including O2 cylinders) including placing trolley in anaesthetic room or near in readiness for mobile patients pre-operatively.
Check supply of sequential compression devices in store and theatres, collect devices from wards where necessary.
Receive delivery of theatre scrubs and other linen and put away in relevant areas.
Constantly monitor stocks of theatres scrubs to ensure constant supply is available.
Where appropriate stock warming cabinets with fluids.
Receive and assist in the unloading and storage of supplies into the department store area and putting away into the relevant areas.
Assist in the maintenance of stock levels within each theatre/sluice area/recovery inclusive of anaesthetic rooms ensuring stock level rotation.
Receive requests to collect patients from the ward areas by the requesting personnel. Communicate any problematic issues likely to cause delays to the Theatre Manager.
Assist in transferring patient from chair/chair to trolley in accordance with Moving and Handling Policy.
Transfer patient on trolley or bed to the appropriate listed theatre with the ward escort.
Assist with transferring the patient back to the ward, with trained nurse if GA patient or HCA if patient has had a local anaesthetic.
Check and clean all patient trollies ensuring expiry dates for post op packs are in date.
