Job overview
To provide Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions to service users with a variety of mental and physical health diagnoses within the Rotherham community Mental Health OT Team. You will be working primarily with patients referred into the primary care integrated mental health Hub.
Main duties of the job
- To use effective professional interpersonal skills when discussing assessment and intervention with patients and carers with different levels of comprehension.
- To refer individuals on to other professionals and agencies as appropriate to their need (e.g. Social Services)
- To act as an advocate for service users and provide support and advice to their family and carers as appropriate.
- To liaise closely with other professionals involved in service user care across the RDaSH footprint regarding clinical issues.To follow all Trust policies and protocols.
- To work without direct supervision and take responsibility for managing own time and caseload and prioritising work within it.
- To deliver clinical work within a variety of settings e.g. ward based, service user's home, community settings and abide by rules and regulations pertinent to those settings.
- To manage clinical information in line with the service and Trust information requirements.
- To contribute to departmental meetings and routines.
- To document all intervention in patient records in accordance with professional standards and local guidelines

Essential criteria
- Diploma/ Degree in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Registration
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience working with Adults with mental health difficulties
- Experience of working within lone working procedure and policies
Desirable criteria
- Post registration experience as a Band 5 OT
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and application of OT assessments/ interventions with adults/older adults with mental health
- Knowledge and application of the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO
- Demonstrate clinical knowledge and skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently using own Initiative
- Understanding and commitment to working within the Multi-Disciplinary Team
- Knowledge of principles of Clinical Governance and its application
- Understanding current health and social policy in adults/older mental health services
- Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience of working in mental health and with adults/older adults
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to assess service user occupational performance issues, establish collaborative goals, formulate and implement a treatment plan.
- Ability to deliver evidence based Occupational Therapy practice
- Knowledge of barriers to communication and strategies to overcome them
- Ability to work with and communicate effectively with colleagues, other health professionals, service users and their relatives/carers
- Ability to present information accurately, written and oral, in English
- Ability to communicate complex and/or sensitive information requiring empathy and reassurance
- Ability to deal with challenging behaviour and distress arising with people dealing with life limiting illnesses
- Information technology skills.
- Effective time and workload management.
