Job overview

This post offers an exciting opportunity for a band 5 occupational therapist to develop and consolidate their clinical skills in a specialist older peoples mental health inpatient setting.  We are looking for a dynamic, professional and enthusiastic occupational therapist to join our friendly & supportive multi-disciplinary team.

Our team is a joint occupational therapy and physiotherapy service working with adults aged over 65 who have complex mental health conditions. We are an organic and functional older peoples inpatient service based at The Woodlands, Rotherham. We work across inpatient wards, patient homes and care homes.

Main duties of the job

To work as a member of an inpatient multidisciplinary team assessing occupational needs and providing occupational therapy interventions on an individual and group basis to service users with acute, complex mental health needs.

To assist in the supervision of support staff and students and deliver interventions enabling service users to develop independent living skills and work towards individual recovery and goals as part of safe effective discharge.

 To develop links with statutory and voluntary sector community resources and ensure that ongoing occupational needs are addressed as part of a safe effective discharge process.

Person specification

Essential

Essential criteria
  • Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Registration with Health Professions Council.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate demonstrable experience of mental health services.
  • Documented evidence of continuing professional development.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Broad knowledge of current best practice in OT and mental health.
  • Application of OT process with designated client group.
  • Knowledge of principles of Recovery and person centred approach to care.
  • Ability to analyse professional and ethical issues
  • Relevant mental health legislation and National Service Frameworks.
  • Applied knowledge of mental health legislation including CPA and risk assessment and management.
  • Application of health, safety and risk management policies.
