Job overview
We are looking for a HCPC registered Band 5 Occupational Therapist to work as a rotational staff member across the physical and mental health services within RDASH. The first rotational position will be within Acute Inpatient Mental Health Services.
We welcome applications from qualified Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy students in the final months of obtaining their degree certificate. All appointments of students will be pending successful completion of their course and HCPC registration.
The rotation consists of:
- Intermediate Care In-Patient Ward
- Re-ablement
- Community Stroke Rehabilitation
- Neurological Rehabilitation
- Enhanced Care Home Team
- Home First
- Mental Health
- Learning disabilities
There are also opportunities to rotate into DBTH as part of the physical rotation offer.
Your should possess excellent communication skills and have an innovative and flexible approach. This role will provide you with an excellent opportunity to consolidate your knowledge and gain new clinical skills within a supportive, friendly environment.
The development of all our Occupational Therapists is important to us. You will have access to peer and professional supervision, continuing professional development sessions, quality improvement training and early leadership development alongside the preceptorship programme.
Main duties of the job
- Provide high quality Occupational Therapy interventions including assessment, treatment and advice to patients with a wide variety of medical conditions and social circumstances.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders including patient’s family members, carers and the multi-disciplinary team.
- Provide patient centred care to ensure a holistic and individualised treatment/intervention plan is delivered
- Provide rehabilitation, assistive equipment and minor adaptations when appropriate.
- Participate in evidence-based audit and service development projects relevant to the area of speciality will be carried out in conjunction with the Senior Therapists (OT/PT) in order to ensure high standards of care & service development are maintained and improved upon.
- Participate in the Band 5 Rotational Scheme including the preceptorship programme, supervision and training.
- Demonstrate time management and prioritisation skills to effectively manage own caseload
- Responsible for accurate and timely documentation in line with RCOT and trust guidelines
- Compliance with the Trust’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
- Be an integral member of a team assuming delegated responsibilities for supervision of students and assistant members of staff as required.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.

- Documented evidence of professional development
Experience
Essential criteria
- To have completed relevant placements during their occupational therapy degree in Mental Health, Physical Health and/or Learning Disabillities
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Basic understanding of current NHS issues, professional standards, CPD, clinical governance.
- Ability to assess patient conditions, establish the patient’s problem, formulate and implement a treatment plan in conjunction with the patient.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
