An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint clinical colleagues from Nursing and AHP backgrounds to support our newly qualified staff. Working with the preceptorship leads you will help provide pastoral support for Nursing and AHP staff that are early in their careers.

You will use your experience to nurture newly qualified staff through mentoring and pastoral support ensuring they gain the confidence and skills needed to transition from learner to qualified practitioner. Influencing the next generation, as they set out on a career in health and care is exciting and fulfilling. Watching them develop into confident and knowledgeable practitioners will be a rewarding role.

The Legacy Mentor role will appeal to experienced nurses and allied health professionals; we are looking for both professions to come forward and apply.

Main duties of the job

As a Legacy Mentor, you will help nurture the professional growth of nursing, AHP and healthcare support worker colleagues. Your primary responsibility will be to provide guidance, and transfer of knowledge to help develop the next generation. This will include providing mentoring to colleagues to help them in the early stages of their career.

We are looking for a clinical professional from a nursing or AHP background with a wealth of experience and a commitment to fostering a positive and impactful legacy within the nursing and AHP community.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Be part of a support network for colleagues, tailoring strategies to meet the diverse needs of people at the any stage of their career. This includes networking with internal colleagues involved in retention activities, preceptorship, placements and patient experience.

Collaborate with mentees to identify career goals and help create personalised development plans. Provide guidance on educational opportunities, certifications, and advancement within the professional field.

Facilitate opportunities for mentees to expand their professional networks. Introduce them to relevant contacts within the healthcare industry and support their participation in conferences, seminars, and networking events.

Encourage the adoption of best practices and evidence-based clinical care among mentees. Provide guidance on staying abreast of NHS clinical developments and advancements.

Share expertise, insights, and experiences to facilitate the transfer of knowledge, contributing to the professional enrichment of colleagues.

Person specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Health professional with NMC or HCPC
  • Educated to degree level, plus post graduate diploma or equivalent in a specific field
Desirable criteria
  • Mental Health first aid training
  • Mentorship/coaching qualifications

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience of working in a nursing or AHP role in the health service
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring people using empathy and understanding
  • A good understanding of the health and social care environment and roles and responsibilities within it

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Clear communicator with excellent writing, report writing and presentation skills; capable of constructing and delivering clear ideas and concepts concisely and accurately for diverse audiences
  • Skills for nurturing key relationships and maintaining networks
  • Ability to analyse and interpret information, pre-empt and evaluate issues, and recommend an appropriate course of action to address the issues
  • Problem solving skills and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands
  • Effective at planning own workload and prioritising to achieve targets
  • Skills for manipulating information
  • Significant knowledge of IT systems and software programmes such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
  • Ability to work on own initiative and organise own workload without supervision working to tight and often changing timescales
