An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our supportive team at Sheffield Children's as a Level 3 Apprentice Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician.

Over two years, you'll receive structured training and hands-on experience across a range of pharmacy services—preparing you to register as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Eligibility requirements:

  • 4 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above (or equivalent), including Maths, English Language, and one Science (original certificates will be required at interview)

  • Understanding of the Pharmacy Technician role

  • Organised, motivated and able to meet deadlines

On successful completion, you'll gain the Pearson Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians and be eligible to register with the GPhC.

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Education & Training Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • To dispense prescriptions and medicines requisitions for patients, wards and departments of the Trust following standard operating procedures (SOPs) under the supervision of a pharmacy technician.

  • Issue prescriptions to patients.

  • Support the Final Accuracy Checking of dispensed items.

  • Help with efficient stock control and procurement systems to maintain efficient supply across pharmacy areas, wards and departments.

  • Take part in the Technician-led ward service, including medicines reconciliation, supply of medications, patient's own drug (POD) checks, and medicine history taking.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • 4 GCSEs – Grade 4 or above to include Maths, English and Science, or equivalent qualifications
Desirable criteria
  • IT qualification e.g. ECDL
  • Level 2 Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills or GPHC Approved equivalent

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of importance of Health and Safety/Risk Management issues
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Pharmacy Services

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Customer service experience (e.g., retail, hospitality, volunteer work) or administrative experience (e.g., filing, data entry, organising documents) from school projects or previous jobs.
  • Use of office software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience working in a team, whether in school, work, or volunteering.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience working within hospital and/or community pharmacy
