Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for someone with the right skills and experience to join our friendly team as an Operational Shift Co-ordinator within the Sheffield GP Collaborative Centre. 

You will be expected to provide day to day operational shift coordination to the administrative team, supervise the call handling team, control room staff and drivers ensuing that the service is effectively and efficiently delivered.

You will play a key role in the operational support of the department, working closely with the GPC Leadership team and staff to ensure the systems and processes are in place to meet local and national targets. You will be required to ensure the effective delivery of services by providing leadership, support and guidance on operational related issues to both clinical and non-clinical staff. Leading on initial stages of discipline, appraisals, ensuring that appropriate training is delivered to staff, reviewing work performance and progress.

Working within a 24/7 department, you will be required to work both flexible and varied shifts over a 7 day period. This will include out of hours, night duties and bank holidays so flexibility is an essential required.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure that operational plans to deliver efficient, effective and innovative service are implemented effectively.
  • Assist the GP Collaborative Management Team to deliver the service to meet the agreed aims and objectives.
  • To assist the GPC Management Team with Human Resources management, Complaints and IT systems/processes to ensure an effective and efficient service.
  • To ensure the administrative staff capacity is managed effectively and efficiently to meet the demands of the service.
  • To work across the 24 hour service needs on a rota basis ensuring 24 hour cover is provided to support staff and maintain the service delivery.
  • Line manage designated staff in line with HR processes and policies.

The Combined Community & Acute Group is one of the largest of ten Care Groups in Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (STHFT).  Having three directorates, it spans acute and community services in several areas, including Primary and Secondary care.  This provides the opportunity to develop new integrated working which the Care Group is actively pursuing.

The GP Collaborative provides an urgent Out of Hours primary care service for the city of Sheffield.  This includes providing clinical triage for patients referred by the 111 service, face to face clinical assessment at the GP Collaborative as required and home visits for the housebound and those at the end of life.     

The GP Collaborative also provides Primary Care streaming of patients attending ED at the Northern General Hospital and at Sheffield Children’s Hospital with primary care needs that can be redirected and seen in the GP Collaborative.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE level C or above in English and Maths or equivalent qualification / Equivalent Experience
  • NVQ level 3 qualification or equivalent qualification / Equivalent Experience
  • IT qualification e.g., European Computer Driving Licence/RSA/ICR III or equivalent qualification / Equivalent Experience
Desirable criteria
  • Further education in IT skills.
  • To have completed further training to promote own development.
  • Supervisory qualification

Special Skills/Aptitudes

Essential criteria
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to deliver work in line with Directorate priorities and timescales.
