Job overview

We are seeking a flexible, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to become part of our dedicated, highly focused Non-Invasive team working to provide and maintain a high standard of healthcare to patients on all wards and peripheral hospitals within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

The post holder will be responsible for performing a range of routine non-invasive Diagnostic Cardiology investigations on inpatients and outpatients. 

The post holder will perform the following procedures within the non-invasive service; 12 Lead ECG, ambulatory ECG/BP analysis, ETT, autonomic function testing, and Tilt Table testing.

Main duties of the job

To work without direct supervision in performing and recording various cardiology investigations provided by the department for a safe, effective, and efficient Cardiology service.

To assist Clinical Physiologists and support the delivery of quality healthcare including more complex procedures to patients within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

 Perform routine non-invasive cardiac investigations independently such as: Ambulatory ECG and BP Ambulatory monitor fitting and analysis, performing 12 lead ECG in a range of clinical settings, Fitting and analysis of long-term monitoring equipment e.g., Cardiac Memos.

 To assist as the second practitioner in Tilt Table Testing and Exercise Tolerance Testing working under the guidance of a Senior Physiologist. To assist the implanting Clinician/Physiologist during ILR implantation, monitoring haemodynamic status and providing patient information.

To take responsibility for the initial management of unwell patients or untoward ECG findings.

To train and develop staff and students in performing all tasks as deemed appropriate by the service lead and head of department.

Person specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate level 4 Qualification or Equivalent. (e.g. level 4 Diploma or HNC or CertHE).
  • Experience working as a Cardiac Healthcare Science assistant or senior cardiographer.
Desirable criteria
  • SCST Foundation Certificate in ECG Interpretation. SCST practical and/ or Certificate theory exams

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of performing 12-lead ECGs, ambulatory ECG fitting and analysis, ambulatory BP fitting and download and assisting in exercise stress tests/ stress echo and/or assisting in tilt table tests.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of performing other non-invasive diagnostic tests such as signal averaged ECG, Fitting and analysing long term monitoring such as Kardia or spider flashes

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good level written and verbal communication skills
  • Good IT skills with experience of working with Microsoft Office
  • Able to work autonomously and within a team
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with NHS software systems.
  • Experience of training junior staff and students
