Job overview
The appointment is for a fixed term period of 12 months. Cardiology Specialist Training in Coronary Intervention is essential. The post does not award a National Training Number. This post is not recognised as a ‘training post’. Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. The duties of this post are appropriate to ST7 equivalent or post-CCT Cardiology Specialist Trainee in PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention)

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Please refer to the supporting job description and person specification which will outline the duties of the role including an indicative job plan.
The post holder will gain experience as a high-volume operator in complex PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) with full involvement in the CTO service using the hybrid algorithm and experience in the implantation and management of the Impella mechanical support device.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for the assessment of patients in a dedicated ‘CHIP’ clinic.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Essential Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of application.
- MB ChB or equivalent
- MRCP or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of interview
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Broad Training in general Cardiology
- Independent Angiogram operator with at least 300 cases
- 2nd Operator PCI experience - 50-100 cases
- 1st Operator PCI experience - 50-100 cases
- ST 7 equivalent or Post CCT.
Desirable criteria
- Exposure to complex PCI as a 1st Operator
- Experience in research and publication in cardiology especially intervention
- Resource management and committee work
Research
Essential criteria
- Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate.
- Basic understanding of research methods and statistics.
Desirable criteria
- Publications in Peer reviewed journals.
- MD/PhD.
Teaching and Training
Essential criteria
- Experience of teaching medical students and junior doctors
Continous Professional Development
Essential criteria
- Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
Desirable criteria
- Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio
Personal Attributes
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values
- The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC good medical practice (2013).
