Directorate Data Analyst

This role will create and analyse quality performance information to support effective decision making internally across the OGN directorate and generate data to meet external reporting requirements.

Working closely with the Directorate Executive Team the post holder will support the annual service and financial planning processes, job planning, the management of 18 weeks and cancer targets and the generation of data for CQUINs and Dashboards.

The post holder will:

•    Produce standard reports on a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis for the Executive Management Team and bespoke reports and information to inform service planning and development needs.

•    Be able to tailor the presentation of the data to a range of audiences within the directorate.

•    Engage staff in good data quality practice. 

•    Represent the directorate in corporate data information forums.

•    Develop a robust suite of information reports to provide regular transparency of key areas of directorate performance to the executive management team.

•    Analyse data circulated as part of the annual business planning round providing a summary to the Executive Team to inform the development of a business plan.

•    Monitor ongoing demand on each service area and the corresponding available capacity to inform effective planning of resources within the directorate.

•    Establish and maintain a directory of external reporting requirements and deadlines ensuring each external report has an owner who is responsible for the generation and submission of that data against the defined timescale.

•    Support the capability to submit the maternity minimum dataset on a monthly basis.

•    Conduct maternity data quality checks on a monthly basis to ensure maternity pathway income payments are based on accurate data.

•    Work with directorate staff to raise awareness around the importance of accurate data entry to ensure that data required by managers is accessible, timely, robust, and appropriate.

•    Support the maintenance of good data quality standards by identifying patterns of poor practice and reporting these to the appropriate manager for action.

•    Interpret complex central reports on key performance indicators highlights the impact for the directorate. 

•    Undertaking analysis of workforce and financial information in line with the directorate requirements.

The Jessop Wing opened in 2001 and is a purpose-built maternity unit where approximately 5,700 babies are born every year.

In addition to a 22-bed labour ward, there are three postnatal wards and one antenatal ward, an admission Triage area, and a High Dependency Unit. One of the postnatal wards specialises in caring for women who have had a caesarean section. In addition, the Jessop Wing Community Midwifery Service attend approximately 200 homebirths per year.
The Jessop Wing also provides neonatal intensive care and special care for sick and premature babies born in Sheffield and those transferred from other units who require this expertise.

On the ground floor of the Jessop Wing is the Antenatal Clinic and Gynaecology Outpatient Clinic. The Gynaecology Service also includes two wards on G Floor of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

The Jessop Wing also has an Assisted Conception Unit for women who require this specialist treatment.

Qualifications

  • A Level Maths or equivalent qualification
  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) including honours degree with statistical or business related modules, diploma or equivalent professional training.

  • Any relevant qualifications in IT or statistics.

Experience

  • Advanced knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint
  • Experience of developing, using and maintaining databases.
  • Understanding of basic principles of data analysis and statistics.
  • Experience of analysing complex data and presenting results to a range of audiences.
  • Understanding of data protection legislation and its impact on the role day to day

  • Experience of using computer programming languages.
  • Good understanding of relational database design.
  • Basic use of SQL for querying a database.
  • Experience of using Microsoft SQL Management Studio.
