We are seeking a bright, talented and personable individual as the team continues an exciting period of transformation. The successful candidate needs to be an excellent team player whilst being able to work using his/her own initiative. You should be motivated and enthusiastic with excellent organisational and I.T. skills.

This is a demanding position, but an exciting one, which offers driven candidates many opportunities for personal and professional development.

The Directorate rewards its committed staff with a flexible approach to work to promote a healthy work/life balance and robust service cover (details to be negotiated and agreed).

The post-holder will need to demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with clerical and senior medical colleagues.

You will need to meet performance targets and deliver to tight deadlines whilst efficiently managing a complex and changing workload. Thus, an eye for detail whilst working under pressure is essential.

Main duties of the job

Co-ordinating the department’s response to morbidity and mortality (M&M) events and meetings, internal audits, and national audits, including those associated with the National Neurosurgical Audit Project (NNAP).

Administrating the operational and quality aspects of the Medical School programmes for medical undergraduate clinical placements, liaising with clinical teachers, students and University of Sheffield Medical School staff.

Supporting the academic clinical leads in the organisation and delivery of medical students’ education and clinical placements.

Supporting the Service Co-ordinators with Directorate administration as requested.

Working for our organisation

The Directorate of Neurosciences forms part of the Head & Neck Group along with the E.N.T., Oral & Dental and Ophthalmology services.

The Directorate of Neurosciences is one of the busiest and most varied Directorates in the Trust and patients travel from across the region and country to be treated here. Neurosciences comprises of neurology, neurosurgery, neurorehabilitation, neuro-psychotherapy, neurophysiology, stereotactic radiosurgery and TIA/stroke services.

Pre-COVID19, Neurosurgery’s 2019 activity contract was 13,000 out-patients and 1,650 elective surgical procedures. The service currently employs 17 consultants, not including the junior medical staff or speciality doctors. We also have a large range of nurses, support workers and other health professionals that support the medical team, some of whom also treat patients in clinics of their own. The Directorate’s annual budget is in excess of £35 million.

Working as part of such a large and diverse multi-disciplinary team, while working close with the people in your immediate area, will provide an excellent environment for you to get to know people and develop good friendships and working relationships. This provides both the opportunity for professional and personal development and the challenges to ensure that we are constantly learning and remain an evolving service.
