Job overview

We are looking to appoint a Specialty Doctor in Gastroenterology, based at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (STHFT).  

A medical degree or diploma from a recognised UK or overseas university or institution.  Full registration with the General Medical Council with a licence to practise.  A minimum of 4 years full time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least 2 of which will be in a specialty training programme in the relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in the specialty or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to run and clinically manage new and follow up patients in Gastroenterology outpatient clinics for both routine and urgent suspected cancer (USC) pathway patients.  The post holder would also be required to perform endoscopic procedures when fully competent (training can be provided in full for endoscopic procedures).

The successful candidate must be registered with the GMC with a valid licence to practice. For further information please visit the GMC website and click on the Registration and Licensing link. Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Medical Degree from a recognised UK or overseas university or institution
  • Qualifications required for post - MRCP (equivalent)
  • A minimum of 4 years full time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on a part-time basis) at least 2 of which will be in a specialty training programme in the relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in the specialty, or shall have equivalent experience and competencies
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council with a licence to practice
  • Skills set in line with a Gastroenterology Registrar with evidence of endoscopy training
Desirable criteria
  • MD or PhD or equivalent
  • Fellowship or equivalent
  • Wider experience in different units

Management and Clinical Governance

  • Demonstrate and understanding of management & clinical governance issues

Audit/Research

Essential criteria
  • An understanding of the issues of clinical effectiveness and audit
  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate

  • Documented completed audits during training
  • Understanding of the issues surrounding clinical research

Teaching and training

Essential criteria
  • Willingness and ability to teach undergraduate and postgraduate trainees
