Qualifications

Essential criteria

Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the point of application
Basic Medical Degree
MRCS

Clinical experience

Essential criteria

Completed foundation training and core surgical training (4 years) or be able to demonstrate equivalence of training
Minimum of 12 months NHS Clinical experience with 6 months at ST3+ in General surgery.

Research

Essential criteria

Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
Basic understanding of research methods and statistics

Desirable criteria

Publications in Peer reviewed journals

Teaching and Training

Essential criteria

Experience of teaching medical students and junior doctors

Continuous Professional Develo

Essential criteria

Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months

Desirable criteria

Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio

Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values
The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC’ good medical practice (2013).

As a Senior Assessor, you have the opportunity to focus on delivering direct care. Furthermore, if you have the relevant experience and skills, you can take on an additional responsibility. We limit this to one responsibility to allow for focused time on that topic, rather than having your time stretched too thinly. When taking on an additional responsibility, your case volume is reduced, making time available for this focused time.

For Senior Assessors, additional responsibility options include supporting more complex cases, ensuring quality assurance, providing training, facilitating family engagement, and contributing to pathway development.
