Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Admin and Clerical team at the Jessop Wing Neonatal Unit. We have vacancies for two part time Ward Clerks to join us working Friday to Sunday on a rota basis between the hours of 08:00 and 20:00.
As one of four Neonatal Intensive Care Units in the Yorkshire and Humber Neonatal Network the Jessop Wing Neonatal Unit provides care to the babies of Sheffield, the wider Yorkshire and Humber Operational Delivery Network and beyond.
As a Ward Clerk you will provide an effective, efficient and professional reception desk service to the Neonatal Unit and Follow Up Clinic. You will work as part of the wider team to help deliver a high quality service to babies and their families. You will support clinical staff with administrative tasks and maintaining an accurate Electronic Patient Record.
Main duties of the job
Working on one of the Neonatal Unit’s two reception desks, you will be the first point of contact on the Neonatal Unit for telephone calls and in person visitors.
You will also cover our Follow Up Clinic as needed during your hours and be first point of contact for on the day clinic bookings where rapid access follow up is required.
You will have excellent communication skills and feel comfortable communicating with visitors to the Neonatal Unit including parents and families, medical and other professionals, interpreters and ambulance services.
You will maintain confidentiality, discretion and the security of the unit in your role. You will help our visitors with information about the unit and the services and support available to our families.
You will use computer systems accurately and effectively to support the safe delivery of our services. You will be willing to learn new systems, follow processes and contribute to the team’s continuous improvement.
You will also handle paper records and filing as required and make sure that records are available and correctly traced in a timely manner. You will ensure that stocks are ordered and maintained. You will maintain a tidy and orderly working environment.
As part of the Jessop Wing team you will have a flexible approach to work and be willing to learn and cover different areas if required.

- Educated to GCSE level including English at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent)
