An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and forward-thinking pharmacy technician to join the pharmacy homecare team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. We are a dynamic, innovative, and friendly team dedicated to improving our clinical pharmacy services for our 12000+ patients on homecare. 

You will be based within the pharmacy department and develop close working relationships with clinics, patients, homecare service providers and others in the multi-disciplinary team. You will assist with day-to-day tasks including prescription management, governance of the homecare services, managing complaints and incidents and the review of KPI’s and audits. In addition, you will be expected to work closely with finance, pharmacy procurement and clinical teams.

We are looking for someone with a passion in this area of work and who is a motivated and patient orientated pharmacy technician. The successful candidate must have proven organisational skills and demonstrate attention to detail in their work. They must also be proficient in using Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word and Excel.  Excellent communication skills are essential.

As part of this role, you will be required to provide cross site cover and you will have a regular weekly dispensary session and participate in weekend, late duty and bank holiday dispensary rotas

Main duties of the job

 

To provide support in the delivery of a quality homecare medicines and dispensary supply service.

 To maintain the safe, efficient, and cost-effective supply of medicines to homecare patients at STH.

To provide support in implementing developments within operational services to meet the needs of the patient.

To work with the Pharmacy Homecare Medicines Supply Service Manager to provide and support the delivery and development of pharmacy homecare services within the trust.

To work flexibly as part of the operational team to provide and maintain a comprehensive pharmaceutical service in line with current departmental policies and procedures.

 To mentor and develop junior homecare staff and act as a technical point of call for any queries and day to day service issues.

To counsel patients on the homecare service, in pharmacy or in clinic as required.

To work directly with clinical teams to enhance the delivery of homecare services, and to review and improve existing services in association with the Homecare Manager/Deputy Homecare Manager.

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent (Band 4 & 5)
  • BTEC in Pharmaceutical sciences or equivalent (Band 4 & 5)
  • English and Maths GCSE 4/C or above (Band 4 & 5)
  • GPhC registration and evidence of Continuing professional development (Band 4 & 5)
  • Must be willing to undertake an accredited checking qualification (Band 4)
  • Microsoft office packages - evidence of short courses or relevant experience (Band 4 & 5)
  • Accredited checking technician qualification (Band 5)
  • Evidence of relevant professional learning and development, preferably to undergraduate level/ or willing to work towards (Band 5)
  • Successful completion of the Band 4 -5 Development Pathway or equivalent experience (Band 5)

Experience

  • Significant experience within a hospital pharmacy environment (Band 4 & 5)
  • Relevant experience within a pharmacy dispensary (Band 4 & 5)
  • Excellent interpersonal, motivational, organisational, analytical and communication skills (Band 4 & 5)
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and time (Band 4 & 5)
  • Supervisory experience or willing to undertake a range of short courses in HR and management. (Band 5)
