Job overview

Haywood Hospital houses the long-established specialist rehabilitation service for the North Midlands. The Rehabilitation Medicine department is the recognised regional provider of bed-based and outpatient specialist services for adults with complex disabilities. The inpatient unit, Broadfield Ward provides the specialist inpatient rehabilitation in 21 UKROC accredited Level 2a beds. 

The post holder will be responsible for the daily medical care of inpatients on Broadfield Ward, under the supervision of two consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine and supported by an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. 

Main duties of the job

Main duties will comprise routine medical reviews, clerking of planned admissions, management of unexpected complications and emergency presentations and supporting the wider multidisciplinary team in providing bespoke programmes of goal-oriented specialist rehabilitation.

Qualifications and training

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Full GMC registration
  • 4 years full time postgraduate training / equivalent experience and competencies
Desirable criteria
  • MRCP
  • Postgraduate diploma / MSc in Rehabilitation or related field
  • Experience of undergraduate teaching and supervision

Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 2 years UK experience in NHS internal medicine and relevant medical specialities
  • Experience of attendance and contribution to MDT meetings
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary and inter professional teams to manage risks and issues
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in specialist rehabilitation
  • Involvement in research projects
  • Evidence of implementing change within a department / service

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Critically appraise research publications
  • Evaluate and audit own and others clinical practice and act on findings
Desirable criteria
  • Peer reviewed publications
