We are thrilled to share the opportunity we have for a Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our established core CAMHS team in Lichfield

Our CAMHS team in Lichfield is looking to recruit an Occupational Therapist who will deliver a high quality, comprehensive mental health service for children and young people with serious and enduring mental health difficulties. The role involves managing a defined caseload with a focus on working with children and young people and their families who experience a complex range of mental health needs and difficulties.

Acting as a key member of the multi-disciplinary team, you will provide assessment, psychosocial, evidence-based interventions using a collaborative approach and will be skilled at risk assessment and management. You will complement the multi-disciplinary working of the team, providing supervision for other team members, as agreed with the Team Lead.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly skilled, motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist with a passion for making a difference in the lives of young people and their families. We are looking for a clinician who has:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • A strong understanding of the role of occupation in promoting mental health and wellbeing
  • Clinical experience in CAMHS or a mental health setting
  • Confidence in using sensory integration approaches to assess and support young people

Main duties of the job

  • Take responsibility for the management of a complex caseload, which includes, specialist assessment (within service specification), and care planning in conjunction with service user and carer, evaluation of individual treatment plans for CYP with mental health needs.
  • Responsible for participating in the setting of quality standards, including the auditing, monitoring and reviewing of practice in line with current clinical guidance practice and
  • Assess patient's individual care needs, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care.
  • Deliver a range of interventions in accordance with the agreed plan of care and Pathway guidance.
  • Complete and contribute, where appropriate to robust risk assessments and risk management Deliver and promote positive risk taking, where appropriate, to improve quality of life and maximise occupational performance/independence.
  • Maintain an effective reporting system by observing and reporting verbally and in writing on patient conditions.
  • To encourage and support service user and carer involvement and
  • Attend and contribute to CAMHS Multi-disciplinary team, business and development forums
  • Utilise agreed outcome measures to review the effectiveness of interventions, as part of the care planning and evaluation process. Assist in ensuring that the aims and objectives of the service are fulfilled and to identify factors which may inhibit these from being achieved.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Degree in occupational therapy or equivalent.
  • Registration with HCPC.
  • Post graduate clinical courses within area of clinical expertise.
  • Post graduate courses in a relevant profession specific topic.
  • Attendance at relevant clinical excellence networks.
  • Sensory integration training.
Desirable criteria
  • Additional qualification in Child & Adolescent Mental Health.
  • Leadership Qualification.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of making decisions autonomously whilst working with people and families in the community setting.
  • Experience of assessing and managing complex needs including risk within a structured framework such as CPA/Safeguarding Children frameworks.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a CAMHS, crisis, or community setting.
  • Experience of working with clients at risk of admission.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Children’s Act, Mental Health Act, the Mental Capacity Act and DOLS.
  • Knowledge of relevant NICE guidance.
  • Knowledge of relevant professional code of conduct.
Desirable criteria
  • Skilled in utilising specific assessments and outcome measures including the CORC/CYPIAPT measures both generic and those specific to Occupational Therapy.
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.

  • Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.
  • Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
  • A commitment to service user participation across the levels of clinical practice, team/service, and the organisation.
  • Leadership skills, ability to motivate and influence others.
