We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Advanced Occupational Therapist that has training and experience as a sensory integration practitioner to work with individuals with complex emotional needs based in clinic or community venues within South Staffordshire.
You would be working within the Integrated Mental Health Team (IMHT) and the The Intensive Life Skills (ILS) Pathway to provide assessment and intervention for adults 17+ that have neurodevelopment conditions and that have complex emotional needs as part of the Adult Mental Health Service. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide evidence based interventions.
You will support the service as either a highly skilled Registered Occupational Therapist working within highly psychologically minded, enthusiastic, dedicated and supportive teams to support service-users who present with high levels of emotional distress and often have histories of complex trauma, neurodiversity and/or adverse experiences.
The services use therapeutic models including Structured Clinical Management (SCM), attachment theory, behavioural theory, Compassion-Focussed Therapy, EMDR, Trauma-Focussed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mentalisation-Based Treatment. Use will use the skills that you have to provide personalised care and treatment plans to ensure individuals sensory integration and processing needs are being met within a multi-disciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
As a Mental Health Community Practitioner you will be expected to undertake holistic comprehensive assessments and formulation of complex clinical presentations, including risk assessments and risk management.
The role will involve:
· Providing Clinical Leadership for Occupational Therapists (OT) via training, consultation by contributing to the development of the service for service users with complex emotional needs. Providing clinical and caseload supervision, advice and guidance from an OT perspective working flexibly across the system and in partnership with other agencies.
· Contribute to the coordination of Multidisciplinary Teams caseload to reduce and where possible improve outcomes for those with complex emotional needs and co-existing neurodevelopmental conditions, and be responsible for clinical and caseload supervision of other team members where identified.
· The post holder will be responsible for specialist occupational therapy assessment and intervention coordination, in accordance with an agreed MDT care plan, for adults with identified sensory integration and processing differences, their families and carers through specialised coordination of occupational therapy assessment and interventions.

Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- Degree in Occupational Therapy/ Msc
- Health and Care Professions Council Registered Occupational Therapist
- Evidence of continuing professional education to master level or equivalent including MSc in Sensory Integration ( or already working towards)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Highly developed specialist Knowledge across a range of Occupational Therapy interventions and client groups
- Evidence of extensive post registration experience working with adults and their families experiencing mental health difficulties
- Experience of integrating care delivery across multi-disciplinary/ multi-agency teams
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in the community with individuals with complex emotional needs and and making decisions autonomously
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Essential criteria
- Range of specialist assessments and interventions to support occupational performance (e.g. Sensory Assessment, sensory integration, MoHOST, COPM)
- Knowledge of Mental Health NICE Guidelines for individuals with complex emotional needs and neurodevelopment conditions with mental health problems
- Knowledge and experience of occupational therapy models, interventions, specialist assessments and outcome measures.
