Job overview
We are seeking another solicitor to join our motivated and dedicated legal team here at Midlands Partnership University Foundation Trust.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced lawyer to handle a range of legal healthcare matters including inquests, clinical negligence, and general healthcare law matters at a large and complex NHS Trust. The Trust provides a broad and interesting range of services ranging from psychiatry and mental health support within Prisons nationwide to District Nursing services in the local community. No two days are the same when working in the legal team at Midlands Partnership University Foundation Trust
The post holder will be required to have knowledge of how to run inquest and claims files. Experience of working in-house at an NHS Trust or at a panel solicitors firm would be advantageous along with some knowledge of regulatory matters, the Mental Capacity Act, Mental Health Act, the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and the law around Court of Protection matters

Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
- Support the Head of Legal Services across the range of duties within the Legal Services Team.
- Support with the management of inquests, preparing witness statements and supporting Trust staff as required when attending as witnesses at inquests or court
- Supervise junior team members.
- Support the Head of Legal Services with the implementation of relevant legislation and lead on designated projects.
- Manage the Legal Services Team ensuring the operational elements of legislation, policy and provision of reports to court are implemented in line with the Trust’s strategy.
- The post holder will provide specialist knowledge on all aspects of legal services.
- Represent the Trust at Court hearings
- Assist with the management of data within the department, ensuring learning arising from the portfolio of legal matters is identified, acted upon and disseminated Trust wide.

Experience, skills and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Extensive knowledge of specialist areas of law - inquests, clin neg
- Experience doing advocacy at complex inquests
- Significant experience handling complex case load and working with senior staff to reach pragmatic solitions
- Experience working autonomously and ability to make balanced judgment with minimal day to day supervision
- Experience of claims management including liaising with NHSR or NHS Trusts
- Knowledge of purpose of legal services department at NHS Trust in relation to identifying learning from errors
- Developed communication skills can deliver message to wide range of people
- Ability to interpret and explain complex issues to a wide variety of audiences
- Ability to quickly assimilate and understand information and assess risk, form a plan and carry it out
Desirable criteria
- Enthusiastic with a passion for healthcare law and working in the NHS
- Knowledge of relevant legislation
- IT literate
- Understanding of structures of NHS Trust and how legal services fits in
- Understanding of key external stakeholders
