Payroll Assistant

NHS AfC: Band 3

Job overview

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen within our Pay Services team.

We are looking for a reliable and motivated individual with excellent customer service skills to join our busy team and contribute to the production of the monthly payrolls. Previous experience of working in a payroll environment would be advantageous but is not essential, as training and support will be provided.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing their own allocated section of the payroll and providing a high-quality payroll service to our customers.

This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, combining home working with office-based working. Successful applicants will be expected to attend the office as required for training, team meetings, service delivery requirements and to support collaborative working within the team.

You will be organised, process-driven, with the ability to prioritise your workload and work calmly under pressure to meet deadlines. You will be computer literate and proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. A keen eye for detail is essential, along with strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to explain detailed Terms and Conditions of Service, system processes and related information clearly and accurately.

An NVQ Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential. Candidates who can demonstrate relevant skills, knowledge and experience are encouraged to apply.

Main duties of the job

  • Supported by the Payroll Team Leaders and Payroll Officers, to be responsible for a small allocation of the payroll.
  • To work on specific tasks associated with the production of the monthly payroll which includes, but is not limited to, the validation routines.
  • To work with the team to run, produce and validate the monthly payrolls, ensuring that payments are accurate and timely, and that T&Cs, policy and statutory legislation in relation to staff pay is complied with at all times.
  • To provide a customer focused payroll service.
  • To support and advise staff with payroll enquiries, via email, phone/MS Teams and post.
