Integrated Sexual Health Nurse – South Staffordshire
One part time post available (30 hours per week)
Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT) has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, committed and experienced sexual health nurse to work within the integrated Sexual Health Service in South Staffordshire, predominantly based in the Branston clinic.
MPFT provides 3 sexual health clinics in South Staffordshire, located in Stafford (Civic Centre), Burton on Trent (Branston) and Tamworth (Sir Robert Peel Hospital). These clinics provide contraception, sexual health and HIV care for a diverse demographic of patients across the region.
The successful candidate will be allocated a base at either Stafford, Burton or Tamworth which is where the majority of their working days will be done. This will be agreed with the individual following successful interview. There may be an occasional need to travel to the other clinics to work clinically or attend training (any additional mileage/travel expenses incurred are reimbursed). The successful candidate will need to be flexible as the post may require some evening work until 8pm during the week, and some Saturday mornings.
The role involves being exposed to sensitive and confidential information it is imperative to ensure that this is dealt with in line with organisational policies and information governance.
Main duties of the job
- Leading and undertaking nurse‑led clinics working alongside colleagues, to ensure continuity of service provision.
- Receiving patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems and making an assessment of their health care needs, based on highly developed nursing knowledge and skills.
- Planning and coordinating the healthcare needs of patients in the service, including the requirement for regular/routine physical examinations and investigations.
- Ordering necessary investigations, and providing treatment and care both individually, as part of a team, and through liaison with / referral to other agencies.

- Assess the contraceptive need of the client, taking a comprehensive medical, gynaecological, sexual and social history as appropriate.
- To maintain high quality clinical electronic and paper records as applicable including plans of care, interventions and referrals, and respecting confidentiality at all times.
To maintain and record accurate and legible electronic and paper records as applicable consistent with the Trust’s record keeping policy and NMC record keeping standards. - To offer pregnancy assessment, counselling and support for clients requesting referral for termination of pregnancy. To discuss contraception needs post termination with the client
- Offer testing for sexually transmitted infection, issue treatments as required, pregnancy testing and contraception provision of all methods including LARCs.
- To work within Patient group directions criteria issuing first supply and the re-issue of contraception and relevant treatments for sexually transmitted infections

- Nursing or midwifery qualification and registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
Experience

- Post registration experience of working in integrated sexual health services, infectious disease service, acute medical or other relevant discipline.
Skills and Knowledge

- Competent to run a nurse-led clinic, undertake cervical cytology screening or willingness to undertake training
