University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust
Consultant in Urology
Full Time Substantive Post
Applications are invited for a Consultant Urologist post with special interest in Stone Surgery at the University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM).
We are looking for a dynamic, high calibre Urologist with a broad training in general urology that has a special interest in Stone Surgery. The successful candidate must be able to deliver first class clinical care and be prepared to participate fully in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. There are strong links with Keele University for promoting research activities.
The University Hospital of North Midlands is a large teaching hospital in Staffordshire with two sites- Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and County Hospital in Stafford. The Royal Stoke University Hospital is a large, acute hospital that offers a broad range of medical and surgical specialties. It is a regional trauma and cancer centre. The urology unit treats pelvic and upper tract cancer and has an established Robotic Program. The County hospital is an elective centre. Both Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford have good transport links, with access to Manchester and Birmingham via the M6 to the north and south, and Derby and Shrewsbury to the east and west.
The appointee will be part of a team of 9 Consultant Urologists working between Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital. Inpatient services are centralised at UHNM and a full outpatient and day case surgery service operates at County Hospital in Stafford. Most consultants, including the appointee, have duties on both sites.
This is a replacement post in the sub-specialty of Stone Surgery. There is an expectation that the appointee will contribute to further development of the Stone service. The post-holder will also be expected to support the diagnostic and treatment pathway for core urology. There is a 1:8 on call rota in place, with full-time middle grade cover and a 1:8 rota consultant of the week rota.
