Senior CBT Therapist
NHS AfC: Band 7
Job overview
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic individual to join Newcastle Adult Community Mental Health Team (Lyme Brook Centre), Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. The Team operates from its main base on the Bradwell Hospital Site (free parking) which serves an identified catchment area within Newcastle-under-Lyme and the surrounding areas.
If you are an experienced CBT therapist, with post qualification experience relevant to the service area, have good clinical skills and are motivated to further develop your knowledge and practice and want to work as part of a large MDT, this role is perfect for you.
The post-holder is an autonomous clinical practitioner, responsible for their own actions within the context of professional and BABCP guidelines and the overall framework of service objectives and policies.
The post-holder will provide highly specialist Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and contribute to teaching and training in CBT within the Trust, in consultation with Lead Psychologists, Trust Managers and University partners.
Main duties of the job
- Provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation and evidence-based CBT and CB interventions to clients with a range of complex mental health needs, involving the clients’ family/informal carers as required.
- Hold substantial responsibility for the provision of expert clinical supervision to practising Cognitive Behavioural Therapists and other colleagues providing CBT within Psychological Services and across the Trust.
- Provide expert advice and consultation on psychological issues to colleagues within the Trust and to other multi-agency professionals including training and collaborative clinical work.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with multi-agency colleagues working with the client group and take a key role in ensuring that clients are appropriately referred and sign-posted to other services as their needs require.
- Develop and implement a post-graduate diploma curriculum in evidence-based CBT; researching, writing and delivering teaching modules and skills-based workshops.
- Work with senior Trust colleagues and University partners to design and implement a developmental training pathway in CBT to equip the organisation to deliver effective CBT within cluster-based service pathways.
- Utilise research skills for the ongoing audit of the service, in particular regular outcome measurement and for research, policy and service development within the area served by the Service.

We would very much welcome applications from all under-represented groups including women, people with disabilities, people from global majority backgrounds, and those from the lesbian, gay, bi and trans communities.
