Job overview
The Specialty Doctor in Urology is a key member of the multidisciplinary urology team at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM), providing high-quality, patient-centred care across both elective and emergency urological services. The post-holder will support the diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of patients with a wide range of benign and malignant urological conditions, contributing to outpatient clinics, inpatient care, theatre sessions and on-call activities as required.
Main duties of the job
Working closely with Consultant Urologists, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Specialist Nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team, the Specialty Doctor will play an integral role in delivering safe, effective and evidence-based care while ensuring compliance with national standards, NHS policies and UHNM clinical governance frameworks.
The role includes active participation in service development, clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives and teaching of junior medical staff and other healthcare professionals. The post-holder will be expected to maintain professional development, contribute to departmental objectives and support the Trust's commitment to delivering outstanding care to the local population.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong clinical expertise, effective communication skills and a commitment to continuous improvement, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety, experience and clinical outcomes within the Urology Directorate.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS, MBChB or equivalent primary medical qualification
- Minimum four years' postgraduate medical experience including at least two years in a relevant specialty
Desirable criteria
- Membership of a Royal College (MRCS or equivalent)
- Higher degree relevant to medicine or urology (MSc, MD, PhD)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable experience in the assessment and management of a broad range of urological conditions
- Ability to independently manage outpatient and inpatient urology patients within level of competence
Desirable criteria
- Experience in a Specialty Doctor or equivalent Urology post
- Experience in a urological subspecialty area such as endourology, oncology, stone disease, andrology or functional urology
