Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to support Children, Young People and their Families?

Owing to the retirement of the current postholder an opportunity has arisen to join the Stafford CAMHS team as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. South Staffordshire CAMHS provides assessment and intervention to Children and Young People with moderate to severe mental illness with a focus on needs-led support.

The full-time permanent (10PAs) post will provide Consultant Psychiatric input into the specialist CAMHS Service.

You will be an integral member of the team providing assessment and treatment for young people within the Stafford area and we are looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist who is passionate about improving outcomes Children and Young People.

Main duties of the job

  • You will be responsible for the assessment of patients and their families, and the formulation of evidence-based care plans. Where significant challenges emerge you will be responsible for ensuring the care of the most complex cases and appropriate liaison and referral to Tier 4 services when necessary.
  • You will act as an Approved Clinician under the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007) and be willing to undertake training and assessments when appropriate. You will also be required to maintain Section 12(2) approval under the Mental Health Act.
  • The provision of care to children and adolescents who are patients of the service are often provided by other agencies, therefore, consultation and liaison is an integral part of the service we provide. This means you will be required to attend at case conferences called by Social Services when they involve current patients of the service / school visits for observation as well as liaison with and advice to tier 2/3 services. You will also liaise and joint work with Adult Mental Health services to ensure smooth and timely transition of care into adulthood.
  • As a pivotal leadership role in the CAMHS team a key duty for Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists is to support other staff through complex cases when necessary and to provide second opinions for members of the multidisciplinary CAMHS service where Psychiatric input may be indicated.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS
  • MRC Psych or equivalent
  • Eligible for inclusion on the specialist register (higher trainees must be within six months of CCT at the point of interview)
Desirable criteria
  • Speciality Training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at ST 4 -6 level or equivalent senior level in a variety of settings
  • Experience in child protection work and working with children at risk.
  • An awareness of LEAN methodology
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of LEAN methodologies
  • Experience of working closely with GPs and developing constructive positive relationships.

Training

Essential criteria
  • Experience of teaching and training resident trainees and other professionals
  • Experience of undertaking audit and other Clinical Governance activities
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in different teaching methods
