Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen at the University Hospital of North Midlands to join the team of Gastroenterologists working on both our Royal Stoke and County sites. We are looking for an individual to train and develop within our endoscopy service. In return the individual will be rewarded with dedicated research and admin sessions to support their development.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will complement the expertise already available within the specialty, improving their independence in diagnostic endoscopy. Endoscopy training in a broad variety of therapeutic skills is offered and supported by a dedicated team of Gastroenterologists. Successful candidates will be expected to rotate across both County and Royal Stoke sites. There will also be ample opportunities for research and quality improvement developments, the current post-holder has had abstracts accepted both nationally and internationally. We have close links with Keele University giving opportunities for both teaching and research. We also have a very active post graduate teaching program in the Trust, providing potential for further involvement at that level. Start date is negotiable with the successful candidate.

University Hospitals of North Midlands has two sites: Royal Stoke University Hospital, located in Stoke-on-Trent, and County Hospital, located in Stafford. From these hospitals we provide a full range of general acute hospital services for people living in and around Staffordshire and beyond. The Trust also provides specialised services for three million people in a wider area, including neighbouring counties and North Wales.
Our specialised services include cancer diagnosis and treatment, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, renal and dialysis services, neonatal intensive care and paediatric intensive care. We are recognised for our particular expertise in trauma, respiratory conditions, spinal surgery, upper gastro-intestinal surgery, complex orthopaedic surgery, laparoscopic surgery and the management of liver conditions. The Trust has some of the most modern operating theatres in Europe.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will join an enthusiastic team of 15 Medical Gastroenterologists. The unit is a JAG approved endoscopy training centre, and has an excellent national and international reputation in endoscopy training. The GI department has a major interest in therapeutic endoscopy, including upper and lower GI EMR and ESD, Inflammatory Bowel Disease surveillance, capsule endoscopy, double balloon enteroscopy and more.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent
- CCST for Gastroenterology
- Full registration with the GMC
Desirable criteria
- A higher degree (e.g. PHD or MD)
- Experience and interest in specialized aspects of Gastroenterology to complement colleagues
- Higher training in a dedicated Gastroenterology specialty training scheme
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCST in General and Gastroenterology Medicine
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion in a range of problems within specialty
- Skills and independent competence in diagnostic colonoscopy and upper GI endoscopy
Desirable criteria
- Experience in Knowledge of changes occurring in NHS as a whole and its impact on specialty work
- Knowledge of H&S issues related to post
Skills

- Ability to organize and prioritise busy workloads effectively
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, senior medical staff and other health professionals
