Job overview
A fantastic opportunity has arisen within the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust;
We are seeking an Electrician to carry out effective and high-quality maintenance across the Estate for the benefit of our patients and colleagues.
The role is permanent and forms part of the Maintenance Team for the Estates and Facilities Division where you will have the opportunity to support and work with colleagues both internal to the team and externally.
You will be a motivated and self-disciplined professional, who takes pride in their work and will be responsible for working to a schedule of planned and reactive works.
You will be based at West Suffolk Hospital but will be required to visit other sites across the West Suffolk area
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for calibration and fault finding on a wide range of engineering plant and equipment, electrical distribution, lighting, fire detection, building control & automation, standby generator plant, security access control, and nurse call system requirements within the West Suffolk Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as well as other Trust properties as directed by Management.
The ability to work alongside other trades to ensure the high standard of patient care we require is essential.
After appropriate training the post holder may be required to undertake emergency on-call duties and join the Estates Dept roster for On-Call services.
All work must be carried out in compliance with the Trusts safety standards and procedures, British Standards and HTM guidelines.

Job summary:
The Estates department are responsible for ensuring the safety and continuity of the Engineering and building infrastructure across all West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust owned sites. The Estates Craftsperson will form a core part of this service delivering engineering knowledge and skills to ensure plant and systems are maintained and operated to the highest possible quality.

Education & Qualification
Essential criteria
- Recognised Trade Apprenticeship in Electrical discipline.
- A minimum qualification of City and Guilds in Electrical Engineering and/or NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation + AM2 (or equivalent
- Current IEE Wiring Regulations
Desirable criteria
- HVAC qualification.
- HNC Electrical Engineering
Experience & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Completion of a structured training programme in Electrical Engineering
- To demonstrate relevant experience in an electrical & mechanical maintenance environment.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in an Acute Hospital environment
Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria
- Good organisational skills and the ability to address and develop solutions to problems.
- Effective communication skills for effective working relationships throughout the organisation
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
- Basic IT skills for material location in stores
- Knowledge of Electrical distribution, Standby Generators, Fire Alarm systems and Building Management systems
