Job overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, dynamic Band 7 Ward Manager to lead our Acute Medical Ward for Older Adults. G4 is a 32 bedded ward that cares for older patients who have been admitted due to an acute illness. The right candidate for this role will take a pivotal role in leading and inspiring the ward team to achieve the highest standards of care with efficiency and exemplary professionalism.

We are a busy and fast paced acute elderly ward, caring for acute and long-term medical conditions. The G4 team supports patients with a range of care needs, encouraging them to maintain their independence wherever possible. Many of the patients on the ward have a range of health conditions, because of this, their needs can be complex and require individualised approach to their care. Care on the ward is provided by a multidisciplinary team approach, working together to provide safe, effective, and person-centred care. There is also a strong focus on discharge planning, ensuring the patients have the right support in place when they leave hospital.

Main duties of the job

This role will require working with the Band 6 team to take on key leadership responsibilities which enables a well led ward, this includes supporting the nurse in charge to ensure effective leadership and patient flow, completing Healthroster, audits, supporting with complaints, attending Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings’, reporting and investigating incidents. As Ward Manager you will be vital to leading and delivering change, be a highly visible role model to the ward team and ensure the care delivered to our patients is of the highest standards.

Leading the ward with visibility, approachability, an excellent level of clinical knowledge and credibility.

Able to meet pressures and challenging situations with a calm, organised and professional approach.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with patients and their families and all members of the MDT, including Patient Flow team, Heads of Nursing/Matron team, Consultants and Allied Health Professionals
