Pharmacy Administrator Homecare

NHS AfC: Band 3

Job overview

At West Suffolk Hospital, our patients are at the heart of everything we do. We’re dedicated to delivering the best quality and safest care to our local communities and need dedicated and skilled people to help us achieve this.

An opportunity has arisen to apply for a 12-month fixed term contract recruiting to the position of Pharmacy Administrator – Homecare and Procurement, based within the Pharmacy Department at West Suffolk Hospital. The period the contract will cover is February 2026 to February 2027.

Pharmacy Administrators are valued team members who contribute significantly to maintaining effective workflow and departmental efficiencies.

In this role, you will support both the procurement and homecare functions within the pharmacy department to ensure smooth and efficient operations. You will communicate with staff from other departments and with patients as needed, assisting with any questions or concerns related to prescriptions.

This is an exciting opportunity for individuals to provide high-quality patient care to those that need it whilst working with an excellent and experienced team committed to its very delivery.

This position is not covered by the Health and Social Care Visa; and does not meet the requirements for sponsorship for a Skilled Worker (Tier 2) visa.

Applicants must have been ordinarily resident within the UK for 3 years, as training is funded by the UK Apprenticeship scheme.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for processing prescriptions through our pharmacy homecare service received from the clinics.

The post holder will handle telephone enquiries from patients, hospital staff, and homecare companies regarding homecare medicine supplies and deliveries.

The post holder will coordinate with specialist nurses, medical staff, and clinical pharmacy personnel to ensure prescriptions are submitted promptly, facilitating timely deliveries to maintain ongoing patient supplies.

Additionally, the post holder will assist the procurement team with their daily activities, including ordering medication for the hospital, managing contract claims, and liaising with other healthcare professionals.

As a department we are forward thinking and utilise technology to increase efficiencies and reduce errors. This includes a fully electronic prescribing system for maintenance of patient records alongside use of our dispensary robot to process inpatient requests and discharge medication.

This is a great opportunity to develop your pharmacy career and make a real difference to the lives of those who need our services.
