Job overview

We are looking for an ambitious band 6 radiographer to join our team and work within the radiology department of the Newmarket Community Diagnostic Centre part of West Suffolk Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to provide a high standard of care to all patients.

The Community Diagnostic Centre is a new building with state of the art equipment, which giving patients better accessibility to healthcare locally.

As a senior Radiographer you will expected to be pivotal in the day to day running of the department as well as supporting the band 5 radiographers in providing a safe and caring environment for our patients and staff.

Successful candidates will be expected to rotate through all areas covered by the general radiography team. 

We are a QSI accredited hospital and as a radiographer working here you would be expected to help maintain this accreditation through participation of audits and departmental quality improvements.

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited from suitably qualified radiographers (BSc in radiography or equivalent is essential). You must have the ability to communicate with all grades of staff and all patients groups, seeking advice as required. Along side this you will have excellent verbal and written communications and a patient orientated attitude reflecting the West Suffolk Hospital Trust Values. You will also demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure and concentrate on tasks in a busy environment. Being able to work as part of a team and use your own initiative to prioritise tasks is essential.

Newmarket Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) is based on the Community Hospital site in Newmarket.

The CDC is part of West Suffolk Foundation NHS Trust which is a district general hospital in the beautiful market town, Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk.  The surrounding area has plenty to offer for all ages. With easy access to London, Cambridge, and Ipswich.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Degree or equivalent in Diagnostic Radiography
  • • Valid HCPC registration

Experience and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Recent NHS experience in a wide range of radiographic procedures and techniques.
  • • Competent in general radiography
  • • Recent experience working in a dynamic Radiology department
  • • Demonstrable leadership experience and evidence of managing additional responsibility
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience of participating in audit and governance activities
  • • RPS experience

Skills and abilities

Essential criteria
  • • Ability to effectively communicate with all grades of staff
  • • Assertive but diplomatic and approachable
  • • Able to work as part of a small dept team and a larger MDT
  • • Demonstrable leadership skills
  • • Able to use own initiative when working single-handed
  • • Able to work under pressure

Personal qualities

Essential criteria
  • • Commitment to own personal development
  • • Occupational Health clearance to carry out duties of role
  • • Able to cope with stressful and emotional circumstances
  • • Ability to cope under pressure
