Job overview

We are looking for a Consultant Stroke Physician to join our stroke team at Frimley Park Hospital.   This full-time post (10 PAs) involves delivering care across the entire stroke pathway, including hyperacute and acute care, rehabilitation, TIA clinics and follow-up.

Main duties of the job

You will work alongside a senior team of consultants, nurse specialists, and allied health professionals, supported by a 14-bedded Acute Stroke Ward, a 14-bedded Rehabilitation Unit, and a highly regarded Early Supported Discharge (ESD) team.   Additional rehabilitation services are provided across our network hospitals.

Applicants must have subspecialty training in stroke medicine, a parent specialty in geriatrics, GIM, neurology, or acute medicine, and be on the Specialist Register (or within six months at interview).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Deliver inpatient stroke care across hyperacute, acute, and rehabilitation phases.
  • Work with stroke nurse specialists on triage, thrombolysis, and thrombectomy referrals.
  • Interpret CT, CTA, and CTP imaging confidently.
  • Provide stroke consultations to colleagues across the Trust.
  • Participate in TIA and stroke follow-up clinics, vascular and neuroradiology MDTs.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, audit, mortality reviews, and regional meetings.
  • Engage in stroke research and continuing medical education.
  • Supervise and train junior doctors; support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
  • Assist in stroke service management and future developments.
  • On-call: 1:8 weekend rota with ward rounds and remote thrombolysis calls.

  • Full GMC registration

Experience

  • Experience in management of acute stroke, thrombolysis, TIA, stroke rehabilitation and stroke follow up

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential criteria
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK)CCT in Geriatric Medicine and be an independent thrombolysis practitioner. Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients. IT skills and computer literacy Knowledge of and training in acute frailty services
