Specialist Grade in Neurology

NHS Medical & Dental: Specialist Grade

Job overview

We are delighted to invite applications for a Specialist Grade level doctor to join our friendly and forward-thinking Clinical Neurosciences team at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a high-quality Neurology service within a supportive, collaborative and ambitiously developing department.

About the role - 3 PAs

You will play a key role in delivering outstanding Neurology care across outpatient and inpatient settings, with a strong focus on general neurology and the opportunity to develop or expand a specialist interest—particularly in Multiple Sclerosis. Working within a cohesive team of experienced Consultants, specialist nurses and multidisciplinary colleagues, you will help us provide a seamless, patient-centred service that ensures patients see the right clinician first time.

The post includes participation in our weekday ward in-reach service, contributing to the neurology referral pathway, and supporting clinical decision-making trust-wide. There are also opportunities to contribute to services at St George’s Hospital and to join the Surrey Stroke Telemedicine rota.

Main duties of the job

Join our multi-disciplinary team to deliver a comprehensive acute neurology service. This role involves:

  • Providing a daily in-reach Monday to Friday ward referral service and covering colleagues during their absence.
  • Maintaining responsibility for patient care, ensuring safe handovers.
  • Supervising nurse specialists in collaboration with other consultants.
  • Offering prompt consultations to other specialties as needed.
  • Collaborating with medical, nursing, and management teams to enhance clinical leadership and patient experiences.
  • Engaging in education, research, audit, and clinical governance activities with a focus on a multi-disciplinary approach.
  • Supporting recruitment, appraisal, and mentoring within the team.
  • Undertaking additional duties as required, with changes negotiated and reflected in job plans.
