Job overview

The post holder will be responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients within Birch and Coronary Care Unit (CCU). The role includes the management of acutely unwell cardiac patients, including those requiring cardiac monitoring, arrhythmia management, and post-procedure care following interventions such as angiograms, angioplasty, and device implantations.

The post holder will work as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate patient care. They will be expected to maintain continuous professional development, contribute to service improvements, and support junior staff, students, and healthcare assistants.

Main duties of the job

Clinical/Professional & Managerial Responsibilities:

 

·         Practice nursing and the delivery of patient care in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust/Unit Policies and procedures.

·         Be responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care needs for patients in the emergency department, ensuring safe practice and maintaining high standards of care.

·         Establish and maintain effective communication links with other members of the multi- disciplinary team, patients and carers.

·         Maintain up to date, comprehensive and accurate records of clinical care, the patients’ condition and other relevant information.

·         With the sister/charge nurse and their deputies ensure that clinical and housekeeping practice follows policies and procedures designed to prevent hospital acquired infection.

·         To have an understanding of the Safeguarding policies and procedures and have an understanding and recognition of those at risk.

 

·         Support the implementation of quality assurance initiatives which will improve patient care and the patients’ environment.

·         Ensure safe storage and administration of medicines in accordance with the trust policy and practice.

·         Understand the need for effective ward budgetary control and be aware of the current cost of medical supplies and equipment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will         

Work effectively and efficiently within the framework of team nursing and individualised patient care.

Work In collaboration with the department integrated multidisciplinary team to develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care for patients.

Contribute towards developing and maintain a suitable and stimulating learning environment

Internally the postholder will develop effective working relationships with:

Ward Manager, Deputy Sisters, Staff Nurses, Health Care Assistants, Reception staff, Specialist Nurses, Therapists, Doctors and all other Members of the MDT both within the unit and outside the unit.

Good working relationships with all staff within Medicine
