Job overview

You will need demonstrable post qualification experience (Preferably in a CCU setting). We are looking for a candidate with high levels of acute care skills and Diploma or Degree in the Coronary Care Course. You must be able to read ECGS confidently and identify a STEMI as we are a Primary PCI Centre providing a 24/7 service. 

 As a Multidisciplinary Team we are proud of our effective team-working, with Clinicians and Colleagues within our co-located Cardiac Catheter Lab. Working closely with our neighbouring cardiac units, outreach team and intensive care colleagues, in addition to our nursing and multidisciplinary team support.

The successful post holder will be instrumental in working with our partners to deliver a safe experience for our patients, with fluent admission & discharge processes, always putting patients first and being a role model to the team. We are passionate about the delivery of excellent care and always encourage going the extra mile and thinking outside the box.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be required:

  • To promote and help to manage delivery of a quality nursing service, setting and monitoring clinical standards.
  • To be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
  • To work as a Team Leader and Deputise for the Ward Manager(s) within the framework of team nursing based on internal night rotation and in accordance with the nursing philosophy of Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust.
  • To take lead responsibility for an area of clinical practice appropriate to coronary care unit with PPCI service. To have a Coronary Care course at diploma or degree level. Be able to work as part of an acute cardiac team and read ECGs with confidence.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical and Professional Responsibilities

  • Support the Ward Manager(s) in leading and supervising a safe, high standard of nursing practice and the delivery of evidenced based patient care in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, the Trust’s Strategy for Nursing and Trust/Unit Policies and Procedures.
  • Assist the Ward Manager(s) in providing and developing good nursing practice ensuring that said practices are in accordance with department and hospital policy.
  • Assist in the establishment, monitoring and evaluation of agreed standards of patient care and quality service.
  • Determine nursing care priorities, planning the delivery of patient care taking into account the skill mix of staff.
  • Interpret the significance of the patient’s clinical observations and records, making decisions and planning in areas affecting patient care; reports promptly to medical or appropriate staff any matters which fall outside his/her responsibility.
  • Monitor clerical and legal documents completed by ward staff, ensuring they are accurate and legible.
  • Establish an effective communication system with patients, their carers, and all staff working in  the multidisciplinary team.
  • Assist with any appropriate evaluation projects and in the assessment of new equipment and  technology.
  • With the Ward Manager(s), ensure that clinical and housekeeping practice follows policies/procedures designed to prevent hospital acquired infection.
