Job overview

Are you an experienced sonographer looking for flexibility in your working life? At ASPH we are looking for skilled Obstetric/Gynaecology sonographers with CASE accreditation to join us  on a bank basis. Working within our friendly and professional Maternity and Gynaecology Ultrasound Department you will be a vital part of a part that values clinical excellence. You will work alongside our Fetal Medicine consultants and Antenatal & Newborn Screening team to deliver our service as per Fetal Anomaly Screening Programme and local protocols.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage day to day patient caseloads, performing high-quality ultrasound examinations .
  • Independently assess and report on images in accordance with the Fetal Anomalies Screening Programme (FASP) standards  and local protocols.
  • Act as an autonomous practitioner, coordinating and facilitating patient focused care.
  • Provide reassurance and clear communication to patients, supporting them throughout their ultrasound procedure.
  • Maintain cleanliness and ensure proper functioning of ultrasound equipment, reporting any faults.
  • Assist with the training of less experienced or new team members .
  • Support ongoing quality improvement by contributing to audits and participating in peer review processes.
  •  Keep up to date with CPD and maintain professional registration

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To demonstrate a high standard of ultrasound skills and interpretation of diagnostic ultrasound information in line with the departmental evidence based protocols.
  • To remain registered to DQASS and FMF for nuchal translucency screening.
  • Competence in the discussion of risk factors generated by screening tests.
  • To have a full understanding of all obstetric screening, its implications and the choices of the individual in relation to this.
  • To have a full understanding of growth scan biometry and Dopplers with the ability to refer abnormal findings to clinicians.
  • Implement and participate in QA of all Imaging Ultrasound scanners.
  • Participate in clinical trials as required.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc Diagnostic Radiography (or equivalent) or BSc in Midwifery/Nursing ( or equivalent) PG Diploma/Cert in ultrasound (or equivalent) CASE accreditation
  • DQASS registered
Desirable criteria
  • MSc Ultrasound

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience in obstetric ultrasound scanning
Desirable criteria
  • Familiar with Badgernet, Viewpoint and Cerner
