Ashford & St Peters Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a Locum Consultant Surgeon in Upper GI and Emergency General Surgery. 

Ashford & St. Peter’s Hospitals became a Foundation Trust in December 2010 and was formed by the merger of St. Peter’s Hospital and Ashford Hospital in 1998. It is the largest teaching Trust in the region and provides a full range of acute hospital services

Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals has 525 beds in a range of specialities, a full imaging department with CT and MRI scanning and laboratory services. Both hospitals have a modern post graduate centre with full library services and the Trust runs an hourly transport service between the two sites for staff.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and adaptable individual to join our existing team of four Upper GI Surgeons to enhance our high quality service. The successful applicant will contribute to the General Surgery Emergency on-call rota currently 1:10.  It is envisaged that this job plan will develop as reconfiguration of Upper GI services develop.

The Upper GI team is well established and provides for the management of the full spectrum of upper GI procedures.  There is a strong commitment to provide high quality consultant delivered emergency surgery. 

You must be fully registered with the GMC and on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at interview stage.

The post holder will join a team of 5 Upper GI Consultant Surgeons With a 10PA job plan primarily supporting the delivery of emergency Upper GI care and the management of biliary disease.  

 

You will provide clinical care for patients referred to UGI and General Surgery at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals and other related activities to ensure a high standard of service and education. 

 

You will contribute to the development, compliance and professional requirements of Trust priorities and policies. And actively participate in the supervision and training of a multidisciplinary work force in the Surgery Department.

 

Both electively and acutely, you will provide specialist care in laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic/open hernia repairs and anti-reflux surgery. The successful candidate will undertake general surgery on-call, general and UGI clinics, regular endoscopy lists, and day-case surgery.

 

There is the opportunity to undertake service and quality improvement projects leading to better audit and data management, patient satisfaction, use of new technologies in remote healthcare environment and enhanced recovery.

 

There will be a fixed on call commitment and the post-holder will participate in a 1:8 general surgery on call rota alongside the other general surgical consultants.
