Job overview

The ESTH Pharmacy Team are looking for a Band 6 Principle Pharmacy Technician to start immediately. If you are interested and available please apply today.

Main duties of the job

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with BTEC/NVQ Level 3 qualification.
  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification.
  • Significant hospital pharmacy experience, including dispensary operations and medicines supply.
  • Experience of supervising, training and appraising pharmacy staff.
  • Experience of stock management, dispensing and patient counselling.
  • Experience of managing workload, rotas and operational pharmacy services.
  • Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workload, manage performance issues and work under pressure.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to safe systems of work.
  • Good IT skills and experience using pharmacy computer systems.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Manage the day-to-day operational running of pharmacy dispensaries, ensuring safe, efficient and timely dispensing services.

·  Supervise and support pharmacy technicians, assistants, trainee technicians, trainee pharmacists and rotational pharmacists.

·  Undertake inpatient, discharge and outpatient dispensing in accordance with departmental procedures.

·  Maintain ACPT accreditation and undertake final accuracy checking of prescriptions.

·  Manage stock control, stock ordering, expiry date monitoring and controlled drug checks.

·  Coordinate dispensary rotas, weekend and bank holiday staffing arrangements.

·  Lead induction, training, competency assessment and development programmes for pharmacy staff.

·  Monitor service performance, investigate incidents, manage risks and support continuous service improvement.

·  Contribute to the development, implementation and review of pharmacy procedures and policies.

·  Support recruitment, appraisal, staff management and sickness absence management processes.

 

Support the safe and effective use of EPMA systems, including iCLIP, through clinical screening, medicines optimisation, user support and implementation of prescribing system changes. Will need to find prescriptions and print them off

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BTEC / NVQ Level 3 Certified Pharmacy Technician Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) Certificate
Desirable criteria
  • Management training. ACPT facilitator. Educational Supervisor

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 4 years experience - at least 3 years hospital. Experience in supervision of staff. Computer literate for dispensing and stock keeping purposes. Staff training and appraisal. Dispensing/supply of clinical trials. Patient/carer counselling. Assessment of level 2 and level 3 NVQ learners. Stock management
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with the JAC pharmacy computer system. Change management Risk assessment. Complaint and incident investigation
