Support Worker - Full Time - Band 2 - Permanent.

Shieling is a purpose built home  for 7 gentleman,  who have a Learning Disability and other associated needs such as Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Mental health needs, sensory impairment, and epilepsy.

We have a therapeutic approach, within a relaxing and homely environment.  We are looking for support staff that can help the gentlemen lead independent lives where they are at the centre of their care , and support to enable and guide the gentleman in achieving wonderful outcomes helping the people we support to live a happy and fulfilled life, by supporting them to develop positive relationships and to be an equal and valued member of their local community.

 You will be part of a professional team supporting people with learning disabilities, autism, complex health needs in the services they access and their wider community.  You will be working closely with relatives, carers, friends, advocates, colleagues, other professionals. You will play a key role in promoting and deliver a consistently high-quality, safe, person-centred service that encourages individuals to be as independent as possible in their care and wellbeing, and to enjoy a good quality of life at all times, in an environment of dignity, compassion and respect.

Main duties of the job

  • Support people using our services in line with their individual care plan to promote as much independence as possible. 
  • To assist with all aspects of personal care (supporting continence needs, showering, bathing etc.) in accordance with individual’s support needs.
  • Participate in the ongoing monitoring of the health (mental and physical) and behaviour of people using the service. 
  • Reporting and recording all relevant information and reporting to Shift Leader any changes in the person.
  • Act as a keyworker for named individuals within the service.
  • Support an active and enjoyable lifestyle of individuals, by encouraging a range of leisure and social interests. Support on holidays, as identified in their person-centred plans.
  • To provide person centred support as identified within the care plan ensuring respect, privacy, and dignity always.
  • Help to maintain and develop relationships between individuals and their families, friends and significant others.
  • To support the ladies to prepare their drinks and meals, food shopping and support whilst eating meals with guidelines that may be in place.

  • Care Certificate or willingness to complete within 12 weeks of starting role.

  • Experience of working with people with Learning Disability in a care home or day service.
